An Abode system can communicate with a slew of Z Wave and Zigbee compatible smart lights and locks, light switches and dimmers, Nest products, IFTTT commands, and, of course, Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. Put simply: If you want the freedom to lock/unlock your door or turn on/off the lights all in one place from the Abode app, this system is definitely worth a look. Installing the Ring Alarm took less than twenty minutes and was a complete breeze. We didn’t encounter any issues with device connectivity or placement, because, frankly, Ring tells you exactly where to install everything and how to do it on the app. You’ll start by connecting your WiFi to the base station via the Ring app — from there, Ring instructs you to pull the plastic tabs off the backs of the contact sensors and motion detectors, which automatically activates the products for use. You can customize your settings for each device within the app, including how sensitive you want your motion detector to be and how often you want to receive alerts for every time someone opens or closes the door.

March 13, 2017 Another affordable yet feature rich option is the WiFi Doorbell Security Camera by renowned electronics company, Xenon. Not only will it let you see who’s at the door, it will also allow you to talk to your visitors, as well as alert you when something is amiss while you’re away from home, via motion detection. This WiFi video doorbell is an easy to install system that you can connect to your existing doorbell, allowing you to easily communicate with the person at your door. It’s one of those DIY installations that don’t require a lot of effort to set up, saving you the trouble of hiring a professional to install it in your home. It has an impressive 720p HD video resolution, as well as great night vision that lets you see things clearly even in complete darkness. Just like the Xenon WiFi Doorbell Security Camera, the ValJax Wifi Video Doorbell also comes with motion detection alert using PIR, which alerts you whenever there’s a guest at the door or when motion is detected.

Our Vivint salesman told us all of our equipment was covered by warranty for the entire length of the contract 60 months. What he didn't tell us was that it would cost $49 to have a technician come to our house to replace the broken equipment. I will admit that it is my fault for skimming the the fine print, and I mean almost unreadable fine print, on the back of the Vivint contract. It does say there that you must have the Vivint premium service package to waive the service fee. Our new Vivint doorbell camera has the same connection issues. I once again called Vivint and was told that we would need to have a repeater installed between the camera and the panel.
